This is my first blog of many to come about the entertainment business, music, public relations, viral marketing and digital media and how they all can work together to grow your career to meet your goals.
After having been in the entertainment industry working in music, films and television I can tell you it’s a tough business but son is it rewarding. It was tougher before digital technology and social media because to “get the word out” about yourself, band, music, film, project etc, you had to pay enormous amounts of money to publicists and hope the editors of print publications wrote something about you. Seemed like most of the publication space was reserved for huge stars and movies. Maybe if you were lucky you’d get a few sentences in an editorial. If you were really lucky about a 1/3 of the readers actually saw your little blurb and read it. Now, with social media portals, bloggers, music sites, movie sites, gossip sites, iTunes, Penguin, blogtalkradio…it’s endless. Incredible opportunities to have hundreds if not thousands of people aware of who you are in short order.

Whoever said computers would replace human beings didn’t think about viral marketing. Without knowledgeable people driving it, viral marketing anything just sits there and soon gets lost in new content always being posted and updated. Why? Because content and postings have to be freshened every day, sometimes multiple times a day. Emails from fans and curiosity seekers need to be answered…how else will they get to know you? Viral marketing and digital media requires multiple knowledgeable people that can think to drive the bus. People that know what it takes to get the numbers up on your videos, what the drivers are to make people actually go to your site, or listen to your music.
