My goal in the industry is to be a singer/songwriter in the rock genre. Is there a demand for that really? Everyone I know who listens to rock music doesn't expect much acoustic stuff, they just wanna rock like the name suggests. So is there even a demand for what I want to do?

I don't plan on doing acoustic stuff forever; I just don't own an electric right now and until I get one I'm going acoustic. I know waiting to get the right gear is just a stupid excuse to not get on stage, but what is my other options? Like the post title asks, is there a demand?

I remembered David Hooper saying to me, at his Las Vegas seminar a few years ago, make your own genre. I love Rock, but I was doing Jazz. People love new things, so try it out Ron. I had a woman play Summertime for me own an acoustic guitar. It was different and it sounded nice.

Wish you the best.

An acoustic guitar is a great 'Rock' instrument. Just listen to groups like 'The Who' and many more current acts that use an acoustic guitar as an important instrument. It's not the volume or distortion that makes 'Rock' music, it's the intensity. You can rail on an acoustic guitar and really get it to growl, the dynamics of your playing are more obvious than with an electric. An electric is just used differently and for a different reason. The intro to 'Pinball Wizard' always gets me and it's acoustic!! Check out my video 'Live @ Old City Hall' on my site. The first song is 'Midnight Flight' and while I recorded it in a band context I'm performing it acousticly in that venue and it works just fine. So don't discard you acoustic guitar just yet.
