Hello all ...
Since I'm new I suppose I can get away with putting this here, couldn't find an appropriate spot for poetry so thougt I'd share it here.
This House Speaks
The rusty old hinges, on the big oak door squeak ...
The weathered pine floorboards, in unison creak ...
The paper thin curtains, rustle in the drafty breeze ...
... This House Speaks ...
There's a drip drop drip ... from a faucet that leaks
and an infantry's trod ... from the frisky mice feet
An eerie moan wails ... when the wind hits the eaves
... This House Speaks ...
A haunting groan rises, from the mortar beneath ...
The light switch hums, or maybe buzzes like a bee ...
There's all kinds of crackles, from the old circuitry ...
... This House Speaks ...
The tinkle of plaster ... from the walls as it's freed
Sighs from the attic ... when the timbers do breathe
A chinking of chains ... from the front porch swing
... This House Speaks ...
The swallows in the chimney, have babies that cheep ...
Branches from the Elm, tap the window with a sweep ...
The pipes clink and clank down in the cellar underneath ...
... This House Speaks ...
At times, she howls ... like a dreaded banshee
Or cries out in the night ... like a woman that weeps
Sometimes she screams ... like a kamikaze
Or whispers quite softly ... she can lull one to sleep
She's been known to quote ... mystic lines from a dream
Or put melodies forth ... as a grand symphony
... This House Speaks ...
Not long ago, I hardly noticed these things
The house filled with laughter and the children did sing
Clarinets and Trumpets and Pianos Practicing
Games and Dinners and Birthday parties
Pets barking and meowing and the blue budgeree
Unwrapping presents and shouts of glee
Telephone calls and the constant doorbell ring
Home work and boy friends and pleading for keys
Now everything's quiet ... except the loud lonely
Oh how ... This House Speaks ... volumes to me
