Dan here, had another listen today. I just thought I would share a couple of tricks with ya. First a couple of things I can point out to you about your music that when you apply to other songs, will make them more interesting. In "Time And Love" you have there, a great example of what I like to call the "Call And Answer" technique in songwriting. That essentially is when you sing or play a phrase, a part of a phrase, or just one note and then repeat it once or several times, as if it were played or sung at the edge of a cliff or canyon and heard once or even several times over again. This, in my experience (450,000+ songs) can be a very good way to increase the effectiveness of a song. When you apply this to other songs that you listen to, take it from me, you will probably not listen to music quite the same way again. The repetitions can be in the form of a vocal, an instrument, or even just a rest. Keep in mind that you can also layer the repetitions, chorus them or transpose them. The possibilities are almost endless.
I'm just an amateur songwriter myself, but I gave a few of your songs a listen... Overall, your tracks sounded pretty good -- these are my detailed critiques of a few songs:
Let's Go -- good dance beat, had me tapping my toe. good mix of rhythm / synth / voice. good use of synth / layering of sounds. good use of vocal effects in interesting ways. thought the "let's go" part should be repeated more so that it's more clearly the signature part of the song -- maybe throw in more "let's go, let's go (echo)" parts.
Angel in my dreams -- "ooh" part of "ooh, girl" could be better. seems like your vocals may need more compression or something on this track to bring out more of the vocal texture.
Melody (sweet girl) -- very distinctive intro, made it stand out. vocals sounded far away or muffled... distracted from the rest of the song.
Tangerine -- again, vocals could maybe use more compression. electric guitar in the background sound a little too thin/muffled -- could use a better tone and more volume, possibly. overall interesting melody in this song, definitely a late-60's Beatles sound to it...
thanx dude , vocals is were i find more trouble. i also found out that i need to buy some foam to improve the acoustics in my room maybe that will help me.
thanx again
let me know what youre doing in music right now
I don't know if you'll like the vocal sound on this track or not... But they were recorded with a decent but inexpensive dynamic microphone ($25 Behringer knockoff of a Shure mic) with a software compressor turned way up and I think they came out pretty clear.
But yeah, just starting that songwriting blog... Will be posting more songs in the coming weeks.
