Music Marketing Network

Music Marketing Network for Musicians and Music Business Professionals

For years, I've considered the term networking to mean just that. It's a give and take, an exchange of ideas, making CONNECTIONS.
Connections such as getting artists or musicians in your community or tribe, whatever you consider it, in contact with others, perhaps the people that can help them achieve their goals.

An example might be helping a fellow musician get in touch with a club owner you work with that also books the kind of music your friend performs and performs well. It's a win win situation. Your pal gets a gig, the club owner gets a new viable act and you get...Well, what do you get?

This is where Networking for the sake of Networking comes in. Don't be afraid to pay it forward.
Call it Karma, or whatever you choose. Later on the club owner, while booking a show with you might ask you for another referral, showing confidence and trust in your judgement. Your musician pal will probably attempt to return the favor and be on the lookout for new venues for you as well. No guarantees, just a good way to conduct business
Perhaps this is a small town upbringing showing through, a bit too naive a way to look at things...But I'm not about to change the way I feel about how I should conduct business.

In that spirit...Just posted, is a video from Squidoo founder and marketing guru, Seth Godin. Well worth watching. I would suggest signing up for his blog as well. Great treasures of info daily. Usually much shorter than what's offered above.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Davee, I agree with your philosophy and attitude. I believe we need to refer and help others too. We did not get where we are on our own. It takes God, prayer, family friends and fans and it is good to pay it forward. Doors open and shut in Gods time and never according to our plan. there are no guarantees ....We do the work with guidance and friends and help others and He is in charge of the outcomes. I know I would not be doing what I do today if it wasn't for alot of people and God who believed in me. With their support, I am able to believe in myself when I get discouraged, knowing there are good days too and so many opportunities! Thanks for sharing. Bless you, Elaine

Good stuff.

Two things...

1. Go to http://www.musicmarketing.com and sign up for my mailing list (on the bottom or to the far right). I'll send you a free audio book which talks about making connections, building rapport, etc.

2. There have been several studies done which show that people remember when you so something for them...or when you don't do something for them.

This is something I have mentioned a few times and it may be in the audio book listed above, but I'm a big believer in carrying a fresh pack of gum when I need to meet somebody or get through a gatekeeper.

For example... As I'm asking if somebody is in the office, I'll pull out the gum pack and open it. Then I'll ask the person if he/she would like a piece. Doesn't matter if the answer is "yes" or not. What matters is you made the offer and people remember it.

There are plenty of ways to use this concept; I'm just using the gum as an example of one. Works with just about anything. This is why politicians give out candy to babies, etc.

Thank You...For the offer and for taking the time to read the above.

semi-related question...
Will you use this forum to post podcast repeats of your call-ins such as the one I'll miss, as usual tonight?
